“These are not normal times. These are extraordinary times. And extraordinary times call for extraordinary measures.” Dan Rather
This quote got my attention and made me think about how the next four years may impact the collective health and well-being of our species and our planet.
It’s already been documented that since President Trump got elected people are experiencing deep depression and despair. Alan Chartock from WAMC said on the radio today his doctor calls it, “Acute Anxiety/Depressive Disorder”.
Now more than ever, it is going to be imperative for individuals to do all they can to keep their mental health and well-being intact given the barrage of negative news they have to deal with on a daily basis.
It is easy to fall into a state of depression and despair when you are not taking care of yourself and managing your stress. It is crucial that we start to examine our lives and see what we can do on a regular basis to build our resiliency to the harmful effects of stress.
As a Stress Management Specialist, I want to offer you a few simple ideas of how you can do this.
First, massage can no longer be looked at as a luxury in our society. Everyone can benefit from a regular massage and in these trying times it is now a necessity for maintaining optimal health.
A monthly massage is a great way to relax and rejuvenate yourself so you can keep stress levels in check and help you cultivate a more optimistic outlook on life.
Yoga is also another great way to build resilience.
Practicing yoga can help you tune out the outside world and reconnect with your Spirit. When we are glued to our personal devices and tv’s to catch the latest disaster happening in the world we lose touch with our sense of inner peace and when we do yoga it allows us to reclaim it.
If you are someone who resorts to unhealthful behaviors to cope with stress like drinking & taking drugs, overeating, and not getting enough sleep.
I would like to encourage you to enroll in my Stress Management Mastery Program to help you learn healthier coping skills like Progressive Muscle Relaxation, Cognitive Reappraisal, Time Management, and Effective Communication to manage stress and live a more balanced life.
There are many ways to take better care of ourselves and the three I have mentioned in this post are the ones I have utilized personally over the years to maintain optimal levels of health and well-being.
We are all unique so I recommend that you find modalities that will work for you to bring about greater resilience in these extraordinary times we are living in.
I hope that I can be of service to you along the way!
Nancy
