I am happy to say despite the fact the Nasty Women Art Exhibit and Fundraiser was sandwiched between the two biggest snow storms of the year, we raised over $7000!
I never expected to raise that much money and I never imagined that I would be able to get 118 artists to participate(my original goal was 50). I even ended up having to turn artists away who wanted to submit work after the deadline because we had to start setting up the exhibit.
I felt very fortunate to have the help and generosity of so many people throughout the whole process. Lori Lynn Hoffer, a resident artist at the Leverett Crafts & Arts Center, offered to create the flyer for the event and Dan Hale from Hale Custom Signs generously donated a beautiful banner and two signs for the exhibit.
I was also extremely fortunate to have the help of Sue Mulholland who received the submissions for me at the Gallery space, coordinated the curation of the show with her fellow LCA cohorts, hired Louise’s Closet to play music at the Opening and so generously helped with set up and clean-up.
We had an unbelievable turnout of over 200 people at the Opening Reception Friday night. The place was packed and it was standing room only in the Barnes Gallery.
Many people came up to me and thanked me for organizing the event and for giving them the opportunity to do something locally to help a good cause. People really resonated with the title of the exhibit and 200+ “Nasty Woman” pins that I had made up almost sold out that night.
Even Mary’s(the president of the Abortion Rights Fund of Western MA) husband Dan bought one to wear! The Raffle drawing for a free massage and yoga session was also a great success and we raised over $500 from that.
I really enjoyed organizing the whole event and am already thinking about how I might be able to do more of this in the future. I am feeling inspired by the success of the event and the willingness of people who want to contribute their talents and passions and stand up for what they believe in.
The time is ripe to do what we can on a local level to resist the current political direction of this presidency. The rights of so many groups of people are at stake, from immigrants to the LGQBT community, and we need to do all that we can to help as many people as we can
While we are fighting for the rights of others we must also remember it is crucial that we take care of ourselves as well. It is even more imperative in times like these that we take time for self care and renewal.
I would love to help you integrate self care practices into your life so you can stay strong and healthy while taking a stand and making this world a better place for all. Click here for more information about the services I offer.
