At the end of my yoga class today a student asked me about inverted yoga poses for improving lymph flow and that led me to spontaneously show my yoga students on ZOOM how to PHLUFF their breasts as another way to help improve lymph flow. At first, it was met with some laughter but they were curious to know more so I decided to share what I know about PHLUFFING with all of you.
First, the word “PHLUFFING” is an acronym for:
Personal
Hand
Lymphatic
Undulation
Flow
Facilitation
The technique was created by Cheryl Chapman, a former cardiac oncology and hospice nurse, and a breast care advocate dedicated to empowering and educating women about self breast care. Cheryl is also the author of “The Happy Breast Book”.
Our body’s immune system circulates lymph fluid to destroy cancer cells, viruses, bacteria, microorganisms, toxins and waste material. When we wear a bra for many hours a day, our lymph fluid can get restricted and the lymph cannot circulate freely in our breasts.
Phluffing is a safe, easy, gentle technique that has many benefits:
- Reduces breast congestion
- Relieves breast tenderness and pain
- Decreases lumps and cysts from fibrocystic breasts
- Moves lymph and brings killer T-Cells to protect the breast from bacteria and cancer
- Brings blood and oxygen to breast tissue
- Cleans out toxins
- Enhances breastfeeding
You can do Phluffing at home, at work, in your car, with or without clothing, in the morning after showering and especially in the evening after you remove your bra.
There is a 1 in 8 chance a woman will develop breast cancer and it is the second leading cause of cancer death in women.
Sadly, most women take better care of their hair, nails, face and feet than their breasts. I hope this video will inspire you to practice PHLUFFING on a regular basis to improve your breast health and help reduce your risk of getting breast cancer.
